Corporal Laurent Palardy was quite a Hero. During the island hopping campaign heading towards Japan, Laurent was wounded at Saipan. He was sent to a field hospital to recover from his wounds. Healthy again he rejoined his unit in time for the assault on Iwo Jima. All total 6800 American Naval personnel and Marines gave their lives between Feb.19th and March 17th 1945. Laurent was KIA on March 2nd. His nephew was able to keep his 2 Purple Hearts and the 48 star US flag for many years until we met. With no formal discharge records, we put together his shadow box through research of his obit and his unit. As we Marines say, He is now guarding the Heavenly Gates.
